While Vaud’s civil justice system primarily applies federal law, its judicial organization is specific to the Canton. The canton is divided into judicial districts, with boundaries that may vary depending on the type of judicial authority.

District Courts handle matrimonial disputes, either with a single judge or a panel of three judges. For large-scale cases, a specialized Cantonal Court serves as the court of first instance. The Justices of the Peace oversee child and adult protection matters, along with certain inheritance cases. The Cantonal Court functions as the High Court.

Compared to other Swiss cantons, Vaud's justice system operates efficiently and swiftly. Several courts have initiated pilot projects implementing the Parental Consensus approach. We appear before these Courts on a daily basis.
