THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM
While the Valais civil justice system primarily applies federal law, its judicial organisation is specific to the Canton.
The canton is divided into judicial districts, whose boundaries may vary depending on the type of judicial authority.
The District Courts handle almost all civil disputes with a single judge. The Child and Adult Protection Authority oversees child and adult protection matters. Municipal justice handles conciliation, as well as certain inheritance cases.
The Cantonal Court functions as the High Court.
Several courts have launched pilot projects implementing the Parental Consensus approach.
